Praying in Five Dimensions

God is multidimensional

We see this in God’s creation
We see this in the incarnation of Jesus
We see this in how the Holy Spirit moves
Because God is multidimensional I am never alone

Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me,” even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.

– Psalm 139:7-12

Five Dimensions of prayer

I look backwards toward the cross

For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.

– 1 Peter 1:18-19

I look upward to the Father’s face

For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs–heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

– Romans 8:15-17

God wants my prayers to be personal  – Abba
God wants my prayers to be passionate. – Cry out
God wants my prayers to be a partnership  – By His Spirit

I look inward to Jesus living inside me

Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you–unless, of course, you fail the test?

– 2 Cor. 13:5

I look around and ask the Holy Spirit to use me

Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness.

– Romans 6:13

I look forward to my future in faith

being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

– Philippians 1:6
