The Significance of Compassion

John 13:34-35

We were made for significance

10 For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Ephesians 2:10

We are God’s primary accomplishment
We are created for a purpose
We are part of the plan

Why is compassion important?
Compassion adjusts our attitude

Faith makes all things possible but love makes all things easy

– D.L. Moody

Compassion requires awareness
Love means that we see people as God sees them

Compassion reveals our altered life

To know God is to be transformed and thus to be introduced to a life that could not otherwise be experienced

– D.A. Carson

Compassion mandates action

Do not bother wasting time whether you “love’ your neighbor, act as if you did

– C.S. Lewis

A new command I give you; love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know you are my disciples, if you love one another.
